This mask, made of painted tin, was made at the Queen’s Hospital, Sidcup by dental technician Archie Lane. During World War I the Queen’s Hospital became established as the leading centre in the UK for maxillofacial and plastic surgery. From 1917 to 1921 it admitted over 5000 servicemen to its wards.
